Protein Test Kits

Protein tests are a simple and cost-efficient way of testing for genetically modified organisms (GMOs). However, they are appropriate exclusively for non-processed samples such as seeds or grains (limited applicability for soy flour and grits). Please contact us, we will be happy to clarify the suitability of this kit type for your specific sample matrix.

For processed samples, the Polymerase Chain Reaction or PCR is the method of choice. Proteins denature very easily under influences such as heat or acidity, while DNA demonstrates a greater stability under the same conditions.

The Eurofins’ portfolio includes dipstick rapid tests, also called Lateral Flow Device (LFD) and ELISA tests for various GMO traits. The tests are produced by Romer Labs, Inc. and distributed by Eurofins in Germany (exclusively) and other countries.

Dipsticks - AgraStrip™

The Dipstick tests (AgraStrip™), in particular, are ideal for the analysis of seeds and raw materials. There are even special tests for single seed analysis and the analysis of leaf materials. With the use of Dipsticks, results can be obtained within a matter of minutes. It is not necessary to have a special laboratory or personnel with specific background knowledge. The analysis can be conducted directly at the site of sample collection. It is simple to use and easy to learn, even without having a technical background.

Dipsticks are available for various traits, i.e. for GMO proteins in maize, soy, rapeseed, sugar beet or rice. For some GMOs, AgraStrip™ dipsticks can be used in combination with the AgraReader for conducting semi-quantitative analyses.

ELISA Tests - AgraQuant™

For the use of the AgraQuant™ ELISA tests, laboratory equipment and trained personnel are required. If the sample matrix is soy (besides raw material, also flours, grits and protein isolates), then it is also possible to attain semi-quantitative results.
