WEBINAR: Environmental Contaminants in Focus of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)
About PFAS, Brominated Flame Retardants, Chloroparaffins, Dioxins and PCBs
Jan 2020. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) regularly collects occurrence data on contaminants in food and feed, carries out risk assessments and gives scientific advice, including for the EU legislative bodies. Such data collections and assessments by EFSA include dioxins and PCBs, per-and/or polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS, also abbreviated as PFCS), brominated flame retardants and chloroparaffins. For some of these groups, tolerable intake levels have only recently been updated.
Based on more than 30 years of experience in dioxin and PCB analysis, Eurofins GfA Lab Service GmbH, the Eurofins Group's Competence Center for Dioxins and POPs, provides information on different groups of environmental contaminants as undesirable substances: Where do these contaminants come from? How do they get into food and feed? Which product groups are more frequently affected? What are the legal requirements (sampling, maximum levels, action values, guidance values, reporting and notification obligations)?
- PFAS, brominated flame retardants, chloropraffins, dioxins and PCBs as undesirable substances
- Categories of food and feed products of higher risk
- Legal requirements: sampling, maximum levels, action values, reporting and notification obligations
- Current and future developments
At the end of the webinar there will be time for your individual questions.
Dr Nina Lohmann
Scientific Project Manager

With almost 15 years of experience in the context of dioxins, PCBs and other contaminants in the environment, food and feed as well as in human biomonitoring, she works as a scientific project manager for Eurofins GfA Lab Service GmbH in Hamburg.
The webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge on the occurrence of PFAS, brominated flame retardants, chloroparaffins and also dioxins and PCBs as undesirable substances in food and feed. The webinar will focus also on current and possible future developments concerning these environmental contaminants at the level of food and feed law.
