IR-A protection determination in vitro
Every day human skin is exposed to infrared A (IR A)-radiation as part of the natural sun rays. As IR A-radiation accounts for around one third of the solar radiation, it has gained great attention concerning its effects on human body and skin. Studies show that IR-A radiation also induces reactive oxygen species (ROS) and thus contributes to skin ageing.
With the help of a in house developed test set-up that reproducibly and quantitatively measures the transmittance in %, the IR-A protection can be determined in vitro.
The direct infrared A protection of the test product is thus characterised by the transmittance in % of the infrared A radiation.
