Eurofins E&E can provide the full range of testing, evaluation, auditing and certification services for equipment for use in Explosive Atmospheres. Our services cover the full scope of standards, and we can assist our customers in the following areas:

ATEX

Equipment and protective systems for installation in potentially explosive atmospheres (also referred to as hazardous locations) in the European Union must comply with the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU (which replaced the former ATEX Directive 94/9/EC).

Eurofins E&E can provide an extensive evaluation, testing, certification, and auditing services through our three EU Notified Bodies (0537, 0477 and 2776) for the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.

In addition, Eurofins E&E CML in the UK has a full scope and can undertake all testing required to assist manufacturers globally in achieving ATEX certification for their products.

UKCA / UKEX

In addition to our ATEX & IECEx services, Eurofins E&E can now provide UKCA ‘Ex’ (UKEx) certification services through Eurofins E&E CML Ltd in the UK.

UKCA marking is the UK product marking requirement needed for all Ex products being placed on the GB market (England, Wales & Scotland) and replaces CE Marking - CE marking will continue to be required in Northern Ireland in addition to the UKCA mark. UKCA ‘Ex’ (UKEX) approval came into force from the 1st January 2021, with a transitional period lasting until 31st December 2022.

Eurofins E&E CML Limited are a UK Approved Body for the UK equivalent for ATEX, Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres” Regulations 2016 (SI 2016:1107 (as amended) Equipment for explosive atmospheres (UKCA mark).

IECEx

For global markets, Eurofins E&E can provide IECEx Certification for products used in explosive atmospheres.

The IECEx Ex Product certification scheme is an internationally recognised third party conformity assessment scheme. It provides manufacturers with certification and test report package, against the internationally recognised IEC standards, that can be used towards gaining approval in many regions across the globe, reducing duplication in the evaluation and testing and ultimately saving time and costs in the regional certification processes.

Based on similar principles and standards as required for the ATEX Directive, the IECEx scheme provides third party conformity assessment against the internationally recognised IEC standards. For more information on the scheme, and countries that are member, see www.iecex.com.

North American NRTL Certification

Eurofins E&E can provide customers with access to the North American (US & Canadian) markets with the MET NRTL mark.

Through a formal link between Eurofins E&E CML Ltd and Eurofins E&E North America (formerly MET Labs), customers can obtain the MET Mark Certification for products for use in Hazardous Locations in the US & Canada through their local Eurofins E&E location.

Japan

Manufacturers of Ex products who are looking to access the Japanese market can use the expertise of Eurofins E&E CML Ltd through their Eurofins E&E location and make use of this service.

Eurofins E&E CML Ltd was the first Certification Body outside of Japan to be registered, and issue, certification of equipment for use in explosive atmospheres in Japan. Eurofins E&E CML Ltd is registered directly with the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) and issues certification without the involvement of any other certification body.

China mining equipment certification

Manufacturers looking to place equipment onto the market in China and who need to meet the requirements for the Certification of Mining Equipment can take advantage of the agreement between Eurofins E&E CML Ltd and the government body for the Certification of mining equipment, the Mining Products Safety Approval and Certification Center (MA Center), in Beijing.

Eurofins E&E CML Limited is one of only two test laboratories in Europe who are recognised by MA Center and are permitted to conduct testing on their behalf, therefore removing the need to repeat testing of mining equipment bound for Chinese mines.

Other countries & regions

In addition to the services (ATEX, UKCA Ex/UKEx, IECEx, MET NETL) and the countries listed above, Eurofins E&E, through several agreements and partnerships for Certification can provide access to many other regions, including the TRCU (Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan) for TRCU Ex, Brazil (INMETRO approval), South Africa (MASC), China (Surface Industry with NEPSI/SITIIAS) and Taiwan (through IRTI)
