About the webinar

While most medical devices function as designed, there can be serious and often severe complications associated with their use. These include microbial colonization resulting in sepsis, thrombosis, and occlusion that can impair the device performance and impact the health and mortality of the patient. Modifying medical devices with antimicrobial coatings and biomaterials is one of the most effective approaches to prevent device-associated infections.

Already during the development of a medical device with antimicrobial properties it is crucial to prove antimicrobial properties in in vitro tests. More complex test designs can be used regarding test strains, medium, temperatures and incubation times for the final materials.

Different assay types are described and compared in this webinar:

- MIC/MBC determination for liquid and soluble substances
- DIN EN ISO 20645 Textile fabrics — Determination of antibacterial activity — Agar diffusion plate test
- DIN EN ISO 20743: Textiles — Determination of antibacterial activity of textile products
- ASTM E 2149: Standard Test Method for Determining the Antimicrobial Activity of Antimicrobial Agents Under Dynamic Contact Conditions
- ISO 22196 Measurement of antibacterial activity on plastics surfaces and other non-porous surfaces
- ASTM E 2180: Standard Test Method for Determining the Activity of Incorporated Antimicrobial Agent(s) In Polymeric or Hydrophobic Materials

Test methods are presented in our new live webinar ‘Testing of antimicrobial properties of medical devices’. Join our webinar on 08.09.2021 to get the answers to the following questions:

- What are the most important parameters for an appropriate test design?
- What are the requirements for test and reference samples?
- What are the limitations of the standard methods?
