ISO 14001 certification of Eurofins Food & Feed Testing laboratories in Germany

Environmental management system expanded - four additional sites successfully certified
March 2026. The Eurofins Food & Feed Testing laboratories in Germany are aware of their corporate responsibility to protect the environment and the climate. With the expansion of our ISO 14001 environmental management system to four additional locations in Leipzig, Augsburg, Ritterhude and Freiburg, we have reached another milestone in systematically integrating this responsibility into our operational processes following the initial certification of the laboratories at our Hamburg-Harburg site in 2024.
What is behind ISO 14001?
ISO 14001 is the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems. It requires the continuous improvement of the planning, implementation and monitoring of measures relating to the environmental impact of our business activities. The certification confirms that our environmental goals are embedded in a robust system that enables us to continuously monitor and improve our environmental performance.
Our focus topics: CO2 emissions, energy consumption and waste management
In line with the goal of the global Eurofins network to become carbon neutral, our environmental goals include monitoring our CO2 emissions (Scope 1-3) annually and implementing measures to reduce them. Monitoring and optimising our energy consumption and our waste and hazardous substance management also play an important role in this context.
What we have achieved so far in the Eurofins Food & Feed Testing laboratory network in Germany:
- 54% reduction in absolute CO2 emissions (Scope 1-3) compared to 2019
- 25% reduction in electricity consumption compared to 2019
- 7.5% less electricity consumption per test performed compared to the previous year
- 90% of electricity consumption from 100% renewable energies
Key measures:
- Gradual conversion to 100% green electricity at all our sites
- Installation of our own photovoltaic system
- Introduction of an energy monitoring system
- Investments in modern, energy-efficient building, plant and laboratory technology
- Installation of E-charging stations for cars and e-bikes
- Gradual conversion of the company's own vehicle fleet to 100% electric vehicles
- Initiatives to promote climate-friendly mobility for employees (e.g. subsidising the Deutschlandticket, providing a gold certificate as a bicycle-friendly employer and participating in annual campaigns such as “Cycle to work”)
"With the ISO 14001 certification, we have reached an important milestone in demonstrating that we take our corporate responsibility for the environment and the climate seriously. At the same time, the environmental management system helps us to ensure the effectiveness of our measures and to continuously develop them further," summarises Oliver Fraemke, Business Line Leader Food & Feed Testing Germany.
