Tools to control authenticity, food safety and quality

Rice is an important staple food worldwide, with a wide range of varieties. More than 120,000 varieties are stored in the gene banks of international research institutes. Rice is used in the preparation of many dishes, such as sushi, risotto, rice noodles, crackers, pudding, pilaf and biryani, which require the use of special rice varieties. Therefore, food safety and authenticity control is essential for international trade.

In our webinar, you will get a compact overview of our latest findings on pesticide residues and contaminants in rice from 13 countries of origin. Our expert, Dr Werner Nader, will present the results of a genetic cluster analysis of 200 rice varieties from 14 countries on four continents, with a special focus on Basmati, Jasmine, Risotto and Japanese rice. The reference method developed by Eurofins to determine the authenticity of Basmati rice in accordance with the ‘European Code of Practice for Basmati Rice’ will also be presented.
