Ecological and social responsibility beyond our core business

June 2025. Guided by the mission "Testing for Life", the Eurofins network considers sustainability to be an essential part of its corporate philosophy and core business. However, sustainability also means that we take responsibility for the environmental and social impact of our business activities. Our focus is on measures for climate and environmental protection as well as the well-being of our employees and society.

Climate and environmental protection

One key sustainability objectives of the Eurofins network is to become carbon neutral by the end of 2025. To achieve this goal, we measure our CO2 emissions (Scope 1-3) annually, implement measures to reduce them and compensate for what is still unavoidable. In addition, the Eurofins network joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2024 to formulate reduction targets beyond 2025 that are in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C. The target for 2030 is to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions across the entire laboratory network worldwide by around 46% compared to 2019.

The Eurofins Food & Feed Testing laboratories in Germany have already exceeded this target in 2024. Compared to 2019, we have reduced our absolute Scope 1-2 emissions by around 60%. We have reduced our absolute Scope 1-3 emissions by around 45%. Our relative emissions also decreased by around 39%, reaching 4.73 tCO2e per Full Time Equivalent (FTE) in 2024 (compared to 2019).

We have achieved this in particular through measures in the areas of energy and mobility, such as

  • Switching to 100% green electricity
  • Installation of our own PV system (Hamburg site)
  • Investments in efficient building, plant and laboratory technology
  • More climate-friendly mobility options for employees, such as the promotion of e-mobility, public transport and cycling (gold certificate for "bike-friendly employers")

We are proud of what we have achieved so far, but we will continue to work hard to reduce our CO2 emissions even further. Our environmental management system (ISO 14001), which was successfully certified at our Hamburg site in 2024, will also help us to achieve this goal. It will be introduced in all Eurofins laboratories for food and feed analysis in Germany by the end of 2026.

Social responsibility

As a globally active laboratory network, a diverse workforce and a safe and inclusive working environment are a matter of course for us. This commitment is reinforced by the global Eurofins Equality Driving Excellence (EDE) initiative, which aims to promote equality and equal opportunities for all employees and to share best practice and training initiatives across the laboratory network.

Within the network of Eurofins Food & Feed Testing laboratories in Germany lectures, workshops and networking groups that address various aspects of diversity are regularly offered. In 2024, for example, there were lectures and workshops on diversity and unconscious bias, training on neurodiversity in the work context and the "Queer@Eurofins" network was launched.

We also support our employees with challenges they face in their day-to-day lives, such as caring for relatives, childcare, or psychosocial stress. All employees have access to a trained in-house care pilot who acts as a trusted first point of contact for all aspects of care. Further support is provided through our cooperation with the "pme Familienservice", which offers competent support for conflicts in the workplace, addiction or partnership problems, leadership skills, education/school, life crises or childcare.

The Eurofins network also wants to make a positive contribution to society beyond its own business activities and established the Eurofins Foundation in 2019. The foundation supports initiatives worldwide that promote health, safety and environmental protection. Since its inception, the Eurofins Foundation has supported 457 projects worldwide.
